Preparing for Spring here at home. I don't like to be thinking that a time in the future is better than the time in front of me right now. Now is what really matters, after all.
My Crow friend here keeps an eye out from his perch in my Dining Room. To the SouthWest, he can see my Living room and keeps an eye on Ari, our Spider Plant who suffered damage last year and was hence split into two separate plants. As you can see from today's photo, Ari is thriving!
A year ago or so, a Resident from my Property in Connecticut generously gifted me this over-sized and healthy Spider Plant. My cats just LOVE to eat anything that dangles so I was worried...and consequently, "Matilda" as I named her, did poorly for a while. But now she is coming back to good health. I have smartened up in my watering approach. I'll explain further down.
My kitchen just wouldn't be the same without Matilda. I have come to really love her. She is my salvation...proof that I can in fact keep houseplants alive in spite of my four cats.
One more House Guest to show you...I am not sure if we ever named her but our Hibiscus Tree is a blended breed, two colors of flowers bloom! She was a gift from my husband to my daughter Annika upon her graduation from High School. Because the Hibiscus is not native here, they cannot withstand the winters outdoors. My husband dug her out from her front garden home and transplanted her into a huge pot. She has been in the house with us since November. This week, I have been spritzing her branches and leaves while tending to my seedlings. The mixture contains water with 2 DROPS of Thieves oil, a patented blend from Young Living Oils. My friend Andrea cued me in about the benefits and I must say that ALL of the plants: Ari, Matilda and this Hibiscus that I am just going to name "Minnie"...Love it!
So those seedlings I mentioned...they were planted Saturday. I already have quite a bot sprouting. I hope that Groundhog was wrong, because the Cat Grass is growing fast and well...I have four indoor cats who are not likely to leave it be!
In addition to the green thumb projects, I have been cultivating some handmade goods to replace the store-bought goods. This goal has to do with the Homesteading plan for our future-Reducing and reusing among other things. And in the longer race, the development of quality "giftable" products that may one day line the walls of a shoppe in Warwick RI where I can sell them and interface with the community. Since I plan on replacing many of my commercial soaps, sanitizers and beauty products for home-created ones, I bought some products to do research on packaging and labeling and aiding me in determining the right sizes and volumes to carry my items in. I also chose containers that I liked and will reuse later.
The last photo there was my idea on how to use those chalkboard labels which just scream "Country Rustic", but not using chalk because of my allergy to it. These Metallics markers are GREAT on black. I cannot wait to experiment!
I almost forgot this little guy...My Loganberry Plant for the berry garden. Berries are fickle and fragile little things and my berry patch needs a LOT of love this year. So Logan here...he will be a new friend to the existing blueberries and raspberries.
